2015 Yamaha SRViper S-TX DX Preview

12-23-2014

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

Introduced last year, the lightweight and aggressive SRViper family has enjoyed considerable success. Yamaha didn't stop there and offers several new variants for 2015 including the SRViper S-TX DX.

This model starts at $14,899 and stands out with a heated seat that keeps your butt warm all day long, plus a rear cargo rack for hauling your gear (it even doubles as a protective bumper and an accessory platform).

As far as Yamaha cross-country snowmobiles go, the SRViper S-TX DX also uses a middle-of-the-pack Camoplast Cobra track measuring 15”x141” with 1.35” lugs. This lightweight track features a 3” pitch design with cupped lugs for excellent deep-snow performance without compromising on-trail action, the company promises.

Getting to know the 2015 Yamaha SRViper S-TX DX
It may not offer electric power steering like the RS Vector L-TX or Apex X-TX, but the SRViper S-TX DX has a straight steering post configured over the engine that connects to a single bell crank for simplicity and lighter weight. The design also minimizes freeplay in the steering system, and delivers a tight turning radius.

Moreover, there's a new deep-keel tuner ski design that greatly contributes to the SRViper's trail character, keeping the ski tracking straight and true down the trail and virtually eliminating nosiness and darting. Each keel has its own wear-bar, and Yamaha has four different bar configurations to choose from, which means you can tune your sled's cornering bite and steering effort to suit your personal preferences. Ski stance is adjustable from 42”-43”, too.

Plenty of power put to good use
As you know, Yamaha's 130-horsepower, 1,049cc Genesis engine is known for delivering strong performance across the entire rev range. Here, an advanced fuel-injection system uses a trio of 41mm throttle bodies to control fuel flow to the engine. Another benefit is superior efficiency, and with the generously sized tank expect to stay on the trail for long periods.

The 2015 Yamaha SRViper S-TX DX also features the reliable and durable Yamaha YVXC clutch, along with a unique Engine Braking Reduction System that allows a small amount of air to pass through the fuel injection system when the throttle is released, giving riders a “coast” feeling.

The front suspension geometry is aimed at managing spindle camber, resulting in minimized bump steer and maximized cornering bite in varying trail conditions. And this particular model puts coil springs over the rebuildable, comfort-tuned HPG shocks to add a smoothing action whether you're playing in the trees or hitting the trail hard.

When it comes to brushing off speed, you can count on the high-performance Hayes braking system with a large, 8” rotor.

Other 2015 Yamaha SRViper S-TX DX highlights
On or off the trail, you will certainly appreciate the anatomically designed seat allowing an aggressive riding stance and easy transitions from seated to standing to leaning into a corner. Then you have a two-piece, tapered tunnel for enhanced leg comfort, as well as the comprehensive and easy-to-read digital gauge that displays critical information in a glance.

Standard electric start, and push-button reverse make the SRViper S-TX DX even more rider-friendly.
