2015 Piaggio BV 350: New

7-15-2015

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

Notwithstanding the tilting, three-wheeled Mp3, Piaggio's flagship scooter in Canada, the BV 350, has been synonymous with refinement, agility, and riding pleasure since its launch three years ago. Featuring a state-of-the-art, 330cc, single-cylinder engine, this entry-level maxi scooter is ideal for urban/suburban commuting and weekend getaways, offering the power of a 400cc and the compact dimensions and light weight of a 300cc.

2015 Piaggio BV 350: The numbers
Said 4-valve, SOHC engine uses electronic fuel injection and liquid cooling to generate 33 hp at 8,250 rpm and 23.8 lb-ft of torque at 6,250 rpm. As a result, the BV 350 is by far the fastest and thirstiest model in the Piaggio Canada lineup with a top speed of 138 km/h (enough to ride safely on the highway) and a fuel consumption of 3.36L/100km. Fuel tank capacity is 13L, which translates to a range of nearly 400km.

Built on a double-cradle frame in high-strength tubular steel, the 2015 Piaggio BV 350 benefits from a 35mm telescopic fork and a pair of dual-action hydraulic shock absorbers with 4-position spring preload supplying 81mm of travel. Handling is aided by the 16” front and 14” rear tires, although you should know that the large wheels contribute to a fairly tall seat height of 795mm.

What else makes the BV 350 a good buy?
As is the case with all Piaggio scooters, Italian design meets the highest attention to detail and finish. What's more, the rider is protected by a large windshield, and enjoys the comfort of lumbar support. Limited cargo room under the seat is a drawback, however (the space is best left for ¾ helmets or less), as can be the lack of a traditional step-through design (at least for some riders). Performance rear shocks are optionally available along with a top box and a selection of cool, vintage-looking helmets.

Stylishly dressed in Ocean Blue livery, the 2015 Piaggio BV 350 starts at $6,195. Note that half of the 32 Piaggio dealers across Canada are found in Quebec.
