2015 BMW F800R Preview

4-4-2015

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

More modern, more powerful, and more dynamic, the 2015 BMW F800R may not benefit from a major evolution, but it does get the necessary weapons to tackle other streetfighters head-on.

From a design standpoint, the new F800R replaces the asymmetrical headlights with a single, more stylish headlight. New protective radiator fairings, new alloy wheels, and a redesigned front mudguard (to better shield the new inverted front fork) complete this much sportier and more youthful-looking package.

Power and comfort
The 798cc inline twin-cylinder engine merely gets a boost of 3 hp for a total of 90 hp at 8,000 rpm. The transmission features shorter first and second gears for livelier acceleration from a standstill.

In addition to the new inverted fork, the 2015 BMW F800R's chassis includes advanced ABS with radial brake callipers. While the frame is unchanged, ergonomics and comfort were improved thanks to non-slip footpegs, a tapered aluminum handlebar, and a 10mm lower seat height (now at 790mm).

Plenty of selection to boost the price
The list of standard amenities remains fairly simple, with ABS, passenger grab bars, and a small tinted windscreen. If you want more, you'll have to reach further down your wallet to add some of the available options and packages including:
  • Safety Pack with Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA), and Tire Pressure Control (TPC);
  • Comfort Pack with a gel seat, on-board computer, heated grips, cargo rack, and centre stand;
  • Dynamic Pack with a black engine spoiler, LED taillight and turn signals, and body-coloured passenger seat cover;
  • Low seat (780mm or 770mm);
  • Sport cases or touring cases, etc.

Bottom line
Injected with a dose of fresh new blood, the new 2015 BMW F800R appears sleeker and more youthful than ever, with a focus on performance, agility, and versatility. Starting at $10,800, it's available in Metallic Blue/Light White, Satin Black/Light White or Metallic Blue/Satin Black.
