by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

You call yourself a supermoto enthusiast, but you’d still like a small, efficient, traffic-busting machine for your urban commutes? Aprilia has the answer in the form of the 2015 SR Motard 50, designed for riders who want an affordable, practical, and reliable 50cc scooter without compromising on desirability, style or fun. Read on.

In typical supermoto fashion, the 2015 Aprilia SR Motard 50 is characterized by aggressive and minimalist styling. Black and white are the two paint options for body panels. The large and comfortable seat features colour-coordinated red fabric around the passenger portion, as well as sporty white stitching. The storage compartment underneath is big enough for a flip-up helmet. In case you need more, a 28L topbox kit is optional.

While most scooters in this segment ride on 10”-12” wheels, the 2015 Aprilia SR Motard 50 boasts gloss black 14” wheels with five double spokes for a sleeker look and better handling. The downside is a greater seat height (770mm, just like the Yamaha BWs 50), but you should still be able to put both feet on the ground at idle.

As far as the engine is concerned, fans of torque or those who plan medium-range trips will prefer the 125cc version of the Aprilia SR Motard. However, the company insists that the air-cooled, 49cc, 4-stroke engine in the SR Motard 50 is extremely lively and more agile thanks to its light weight and responsiveness. For the record, output is 4.56 hp at 9,500 rpm, and torque amounts to 2.8 lb-ft at 8,000 rpm. The fuel tank has a 7L capacity, so you'll be able to ride quite a bit between fill-ups.

Look for a comfortable ride courtesy of a high-strength, single-cradle steel frame which accommodates a telescopic, hydraulic front fork with 76mm of travel, while in the rear a single hydraulic shock with preload adjustment supplies 86mm of travel (the transmission acts as a swingarm). Braking safety is delivered by the 220mm front disc, and adjustable 140mm rear drum.

In the 50cc urban scooter segment, there might not be a better bang-for-your-buck proposition than the 2015 Aprilia SR Motard 50, which is available across Canada starting at just $2,195.
