2014 Arctic Cat TRV 500 Preview

10-6-2013

by Richard Roch , moto123.com

Other than a longer chassis featuring a two-passenger seat with a backrest, passenger handles, and extra footrests, the 2014 Arctic Cat TRV 500 is basically identical to its single-seat twin, the Arctic Cat 500.

Revised and improved

For 2014, Arctic Cat engineers lowered the centre of gravity to improve cornering performance. They did so by lowering the body and dual seats without sacrificing ground clearance and suspension travel.

Sitting in the middle of the handlebars is a comprehensive instrument panel with no fewer than 14 gauges, indicators and lights, including:
  • clock/hour meter;
  • fuel level;
  • mode button;
  • set/reset button;
  • odometer/trip;
  • gear position;
  • speedometer/tachometer;
  • differential lock;
  • drive select;
  • high beam;
  • battery voltage;
  • temperature;
  • oil pressure.
Three-in-one system
The 2014 Arctic Cat TRV 500 offers plenty of versatility for hauling a passenger or some gear. By removing two pins, the passenger's seat comes off, and you can replace it with the optional rack or heavy-duty cargo box. There's also a sturdy steel rack up front that can carry up to 100 lb, making this ATV even more useful.

Wait, there's more: Buyers of the 2014 Arctic Cat TRV 500 can add a TRV seat bag for carrying smaller objects and valuables. Still not enough? The 2” hitch receiver in the rear allows you to hook up your boat or utility trailer easily.

Same powertrain
The manufacturer played it safe, here. The 2014 Arctic Cat TRV 500 uses the same engine as the 2013 model, namely a 443 cc, 4-stroke, SOHC, single-cylinder unit with electronic fuel-injection and liquid/fan cooling.

The automatic CVT features engine braking, reverse, and park. When the going gets tough, just flip a switch and you're in 4WD mode. Hydraulic disc brakes at all corners further boost control.

Add a 23 amp/hr alternator, a 20.1-litre tank, a dry weight of only 326.1 kg, a 476.3 kg towing capacity, and Duro 3 Star Karden tires on steel wheels, and you get a dedicated utility ATV that can satisfy some of the most demanding riders.

The 2014 Arctic Cat TRV 500 starts at $8,799.
