2014 Honda Pioneer 700 Preview

8-27-2013

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

With the Big Red on its way out after the 2013 model year, the all-new 2014 Honda Pioneer 700 - which was unveiled at the Chicago International Motorcycle Show back in February - will set the standard as the ultimate in hard-working, side-by-sides ATVs, the Japanese manufacturer claims. Styling is entirely original, and gives the machine a rugged, aggressive look.

Two models are part of the lineup including the two-passenger Pioneer 700 and the four-passenger Pioneer 700-4.

Exclusive versatility
Of course, the biggest news here is arguably the versatile, adjustable seating configuration that allows the 2014 Honda Pioneer 700-4 to seat two to four people in a lightweight (572 kg) and nimble package that's sized like a two-seater.

Indeed, thanks to an innovative convertible design, both rear seats can fold independently into the bed (no tools required), so owners can adapt the Pioneer to fit their lifestyle. Featuring a tilt function, said bed will come in handy and maximize versatility, too.

Just like the outgoing Big Red, the 2014 Honda Pioneer 700's load capacities amount to 454 kg (1,000 lbs) hauling and 680 kg (1,500 lbs) towing.

Power to get the job done quickly
Honda promises quick acceleration and good top speed courtesy of its dependable 675cc, 4-stroke, OHV single-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection and liquid cooling. The 2014 Honda Pioneer 700 also benefits from an automotive-style automatic transmission with hydraulic torque converter, three forward gears, and reverse. What's more, there are three drive modes including 2WD, 4WD, and 4WD with differential lock.

Connected to 12” wheels, the long-travel, fully independent, double-wishbone suspension provides 200 mm up front and 231 mm in the rear, so you can expect the ride to be extremely plush and stable.

In addition to the signature red, the 2014 Honda Pioneer 700 will be available in the new Honda-designed and trademarked Phantom Camo. Customers will also have more than 50 Honda Genuine and Signature accessories to choose from.

Bottom line
Look for the 2014 Honda Pioneer 700 to become synonymous with versatility, safety, and reliability when it launches in Canada. Pricing and on-sale date have yet to be announced.
