2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R Preview

8-19-2013

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

Hot on the heels of the Can-Am Maverick 1000R, BRP's first sport side-by-side model, comes the 2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R, a long-wheelbase variant with room for four people.

“We have met the needs of the global consumer by offering a deeper, more capable side-by-side lineup,” said Chris Dawson, vice president and general manager, International division.

“Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering, X packages, and comfortable seating for four adults with the all-new 2014 Maverick MAX 1000R make our lineup far more versatile and deliver on the promise of ‘The Ride Says It All.’”

The 2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R has the same proven engineering as the original Maverick 1000R model, but it will accommodate you and three buddies thanks to a 29.5” longer wheelbase (at 113.8” it's 6.4” longer than that of the Polaris Ranger RZR XP 4 900) and four bucket seats.

Exactly what engineering are we talking about here? It all starts with a 101-horsepower Rotax 1000R V-Twin (in a mid-engine layout) that provides class-leading power, torque, and acceleration. This 976cc engine benefits from high-flow dynamics, the manufacturer's Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) technology with a 54mm throttle body, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a Zylon-reinforced drive belt.

The rugged 2014 Can-Am Maverick 1000R is built on an ultra-rigid steel frame and rides on a unique, sport-tuned suspension (both front and rear). Its revolutionary and compact Torsional Trailing A-arms (TTA) independent rear suspension is said to improve traction while also reducing unsprung weight and eliminating bump steer for extremely predictable handling.

Other highlights include: Commander-derived instruments and controls, individual grab bars, and rear passenger-specific ergonomics.

Available in yellow, the 2014 Can-Am Maverick MAX 1000R retails for $20,399.
