by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

The 2013 Can-Am Outlander X mr stands alone in BRP's all-terrain vehicle lineup as the ultimate mud machine. Riders can count on a number of technical upgrades, rugged components and a smart design to stay in front of the pack, whether during a race or when having a wicked time out in the woods.

Purpose-built
Of course, the first thing you'll notice are the ultra-aggressive 30'' Gorilla Axle Silverback tires, which were developed to tackle the deepest mudholes of east Texas and Louisiana. Wrapping stylish 14'' cast-aluminum wheels, they stand 59” apart (same wheelbase as the Outlander MAX) for improved performance in the deepest mud.

Clearly, the 2013 Can-Am Outlander X mr loves to get dirty. The radiator, air box and air intake have all been relocated high up on the machine to improve its capabilities in the mud and water. And fear not: Key components such as the battery, rear brake fluid reservoir and solenoid starter are mounted under the seat for extra protection along with easier access and maintenance.

One more thing: Specially designed footrests allow more secure footing in the mud, while the high-strength skid plate helps the ATV slide over certain obstacles.

Powerful and capable
The 2013 Can-Am Outlander X mr leads the segment with a powerful 82 hp Rotax 1000 V-Twin engine. This liquid-cooled, 976cc SOHC powerplant has four valves per cylinder, a 46mm throttle body and two VDO Siemens fuel injectors. A progressive throttle ensures power is manageable whether in precise rock crawling or full-on acceleration, while the larger radiator offers almost double the cooling capacity.

Can-Am's next-generation Surrounding Spar Technology frame incorporates new processes and updated geometry for increased structural rigidity, improved durability and precision compared to a traditional tubular steel chassis. It also ensures a lower centre of gravity and better handling.

The exclusive Air Control Suspension offers six rider-selectable preload levels for the FOX Air assist shocks. Moreover, its dive control and anti-kickback geometry keep the machine flatter and more stable. The Torsional Trailing arm Independent rear suspension has been reconfigured to offer increased rigidity and more suspension travel (now up to 9.3'').

Friendly and convenient to boot
The 2013 Can-Am Outlander X mr features a Dynamic Power Steering with three rider-selectable modes (MIN, MED and MAX) depending on your preference. It's mated to a tapered aluminum handlebar with wind deflectors and square pad.

In addition, the Outlander X mr boasts a 1,300 lb towing capacity and a new 2'' receiver hitch as standard equipment. The conveniently positioned 21.4L rear storage box is sealed and remains accessible even when the cargo rack above is loaded. Speaking of which, both the front and rear cargo racks have been redesigned using high-strength composite material for greater durability and cargo hauling prowess. A 3,000 lb winch is part of the mix as well.

Buyers can get their 2013 Can-Am Outlander X mr in Yellow & Black with X package graphics or, optionally, in a special Camouflage treatment. Pricing starts at $15,799.
