2011 Mad Bastard Scooter Rally

7-13-2011

by Dustin A. Woods , moto123.com

Why would anyone want to voluntarily subject themselves to such an arduous experience? Percy Adler and Dave Shepherd had a heartfelt explanation for why they were in attendance. Forming a team called Chris’ Caped Crusaders, they were riding in memory of their good friend Chris Anderson, who competed in the previous rally two years ago and made them promise they would compete in the next one.

Chris was fatally wounded in a motorcycle accident, but being men of their word, they carried out their good friend’s request. In a touching turn of events, Adler accumulated the most points and won the grand prize—a Kymco People S 125. Demonstrating true character and selflessness, he donated the sporty scooter to Kids Help Phone to be auctioned off for additional support.

Not knowing quite what to expect, I’m proud to say that both James and myself finished the physically and mentally demanding rally relatively unscathed and with a far greater appreciation for those who ride scooters. It is difficult to have much of an ego when you are dressed in a ridiculous outfit on a scooter. You just can’t help but laugh at yourself.

And fun is what the Mad Bastard Scooter Rally is all about. See you in 2013!
